Monday Bake - Caprese Cake

Last week Sister, Nieces, Minibakebakegirl and I went into London.  Our mission was to complete a couple of Book Benches Trails, and in the end we managed to do 3 out of the 4!  We did a lot of walking, some of them were quite tricky to find but the trails also took us to wee green park areas of London we wouldn't normally go to.  From Kings Cross we did the Bloomsbury Trail, after lunch we did the City Trail and then after tea we did the Riverside trail - which was definitely the easiest!  Some of the benches did have people sitting on them but when we asked politely if they would let us take a picture of the bench, they kindly stood to let us - except for the rude American who told us she was eating her lunch and wouldn't be moving!  On the Riverside trail two business men thought I wanted to take a picture of them on the bench......and there was also the bench with the sleeping chap - we didn't disturb him!

I have added all the bench pictures to the bottom of this post.  If you want to view them double click on the first one and you should be able to scroll through - see how many you can name - I will add the titles another day.

We also saw them installing the Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London - 888,246 ceramic poppies, one for each fatality from World War I.  This officially opens tomorrow and will be there until Remembrance Day, when the final poppy will be planted, marking the end of the first world war.

The Royal British Legion are asking everyone to put their lights out from 10pm to 11pm tonight - leaving only a single candle as a symbol of hope and reflection.  I have my candle ready.

The skyline along the river is always amazing and the sunset was gorgeous as we headed back to get our train home.  As my Dad used to say - my feet were barking at the end of the day - woof!

For Cake Club last week I made Gino D'Acampo's Caprese Cake as it is gluten free.  It was so yummy I made it when our visitors were here, we had it with creme fraiche and raspberries.  You can find the recipe here.
